Although the Enrollment Management industry has been growing silently for a number of years, lately it has been gaining more attention. Last week, Capella university announced that it will be offering an online post-master’s certificate in Enrollment Management.
This announcement comes two years after the company began offering a master’s degree in enrollment management.
In addition to the degree that Capella offers, the University of Miami began offering a Master’s degree in Enrollment management in 1998.
In both cases, the enrollment management courses seek to provide the student with both the theoretical ideas that correspond to enrollment management, as well as practical application.
As in any business, there are is no clear definition for what enrollment management is. For the most part Enrollment Management can be broken down in to the following segments:
| Typical objectives of Enrollment Management | |||||
| Marketing/PR (generating student interest) | Issues related to financing education | Helping students to select courses (Enrollment Specialists, CRM) | Retention and attrition issues | Alumni relations | Technological Platforms |
As the colleges and universities continue to look for more sophisticated methods for attracting and retaining new students, the enrollment management industry will undoubtedly continue to grow.
