College Board Develops Official List of AP Classes
AP Syllabi Officially Reviewed to Avoid Bootleg Courses

In an effort to ensure college applicants more fairly convey the difficulty of their high school courses, the College Board has announced it will officially review and establish a list of approved Advanced Placement courses.
Available in November, the list will include syllabi reviewed by the College Board that have also been submitted by high schools. If a certain syllabus a high school offers does not meet the “AP” standard that the College Board deems worthy, that course will then be stripped of its claimed Advanced Placement status.

This past spring, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist vetoed legislation for a 5% tuition increase for the state’s public universities and colleges. Due to the resulting stagnant tuition rates, the Board of Governors ironically began to retaliate against the Legislature’s jurisdiction over state tuition decisions. Inevitably, the fate of state school enrollment in Florida will hang by the eventual outcome of the final ruling.

This past year Tufts University has initiated an unorthodox approach to determining undergraduate acceptance into the school. While high school curriculum, grades, and SAT scores are still all the primary areas of evaluation for admissions, the university has begun to offer the option of writing an additional essay as a gauge of non-academic traits in potential students.
